Instructions

    • 1

Brush the dog's hair with a pin brush. Groom the ears, body and stomach by gently working out any knots in the hair and smoothing every inch of the fur with this gentle brush.

    • 2

Flip up the dog's ears and pluck any hair from the ears. Hair in a dachshund's ears can lead to infections. Have a bright light shining from above so you can see where to apply the tweezers.

    • 3

Get a toothbrush and special dog toothpaste from your vet or a pet store. Brush your longhair dachshund's teeth much like you would brush your own. Wash out the dog's mouth with clean water after you finish. This will promote healthy teeth and gums.

    • 4

Trim the dog's nails. Hold each paw in your hand so the nails extend and trim them back to the quick (the white part of the nail). Cutting further back may cause your dog's foot to start bleeding.

    • 5

Give your dog a bath. Some people choose to use the family tub, however some people have better luck in the shower. Know how your dog reacts to water and pick the best option.
