Step 1
Hang loose. The more tense you are when you try something new on your BMX, the more the odds increase for you to fail and end up with a serious injury. Relax by taking deep breaths before you begin. If you are still too nervous or tense, practice some other tricks and return to the tailwhip when you are calmer.

Step 2
Work on building your core strength with other forms of exercise and other sports. Much of the athletic work involved in a tailspin comes from your core, which includes your abs, obliques and back. Do floor crunches every day to strengthen them.
-
Step 3
Participate in another sport too, one that will loosen up your body with some range of motion exercise such as swimming or rowing. Strength and flexibility are tow important ingredients for mastering BMX tricks.
-
Step 4
Maintain a positive attitude. If some people sneer at your attempts or laugh when you try new tricks and fail, stay away from them; they are the losers. Hang with a crowd that supports your attempts to grow and become a better athlete. Keep it fun and keep trying.
-
Step 5
Keep yourself lean and full of energy by eating right and keeping your body hydrated when you are riding. Drink water while you are practicing and eat a high protein bar or shake before you get into intense practice. Eat regular meals, but watch your weight. You can't do a tailwhip with a fat stomach hanging over the bar.
