Spiking the ball is an appropriate exclamation point after scoring a touchdown, but getting the right bounce is crucial.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Cross the goal line.

  2. Step 2

Hold the football tightly in one hand with your fingers over the laces.

  3. Step 3

Raise the ball overhead, then throw it into the turf as hard as you can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the points of the ball parallel to the ground so that the ball hits on its side. A hard impact on its side will shoot the ball straight up 10 to 15 feet.
  • Do not spike the ball directly at an opposing player or a referee, or you may incur an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty.
  • If you're a Pop Warner, high school or college player, spiking during a game is probably illegal.

on 8/11/2009 And watch the Official throw a yellow flag and walk of 15 yards. This is taunting and poor sportmanship and I would throw my flag everytime as required by all rules except the NFL.

on 11/22/2005 Make sure that you don't spike the football straight down, it might bounce up and hit you in the nose. Trust me, it can happen, and it doesn't feel too good!
