Getting a free room in Las Vegas requires acting skills and cunning to beat the casinos at their own game.

From Quick Guide: Visit Las Vegas
Difficulty: Moderately challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Strategy Book On Blackjack

    Preparation

  1. Step 1

Learn basic strategy or how to play break-even blackjack.

  2. Step 2

Play only blackjack, and play in a casino with good blackjack rules.

  3. In the Casino

  4. Step 1

    Go to the promotions booth.

  5. Step 2

Fill out and turn in an application for a player's card.

  6. Step 3

    Pick up the card.

  7. Play

  8. Step 1

Present your card to the pit boss for rating every time you sit down at a blackjack table.

  9. Step 2

    Play as long as possible.

  10. Step 3

Wager as little as possible. Play perfect, basic strategy at all times.

  11. Step 4

Take as many restroom breaks as possible. Spill your drink on the table at least once, and take a long time deciding how to play each hand.

  12. Step 5

Bet at least $50 whenever the pit boss is watching, even if your average bet is only $5.

  13. Step 6

Request to meet a casino host after 3 or 4 hours of play. Be friendly when the host comes to the table.

  14. Step 7

    Request a free room.

Tips & Warnings
  • The comp formula is: if you play $50 per hand times 10 hours at 60 hands per hour, the total amount wagered is $30,000. The casino estimates it wins 2 percent of that total, or $600. The casino will give you back 40 percent of that $600, or $240.
  • Don't feel uncomfortable about asking for free rooms or, for that matter, meals and show tickets. Remember that you are in a casino. The worst thing that could happen is that the host will say no, and, undoubtedly, he or she will offer you something else instead.
  • Gambling can be addictive. If you think you have a problem, get help immediately.

on 8/2/2006 If spending more than 2 days there, just ask for a third or the last day free. I did it at the Rivera 2 years ago and got my fifth night free. I made it sound that I was going to spend that night downtown. In addition to that- If you are with your spouse or girl/boyfriend, when checking with your reservation tell them you are newlyweds and ask if there is any way you could get a room upgrade for the same standard price! This works almost anywhere and anytime. I have even got a bottle of champagne out of the deal. Sweet talk them a little.

Free food: Get coupon books- 2 for 1, and % off in all these books. Kind of a pain to find, but worth it and most casinos have funbooks. Works with shows, too. If spending a lot of money gambling, just ask for this stuff, get a players card (VIP or whatever they call it)and see what paybacks are. I gambled around $10000 one night last year. I ended up losing $240. I got tickets to two shows, dinner, a hat, and a pile of card decks.

The last and the easiest:
Enter these little games some of the casinos have. I played one slot tournament. There were 5 slot machines and I ran around pulling handles as fast as I could for 3 minutes and a computer kept track of you total. The highest player after 3 minutes got a real nice prize, or cash, I can't remember. I didn't win, but did get a free ticket to "Splash". -Imperial Palace

Take the free big wheel spin game. I won a free buffet for two on one of them and my wife won a combo- hat, tee, deck of cards and coffee cup, made good gifts for kids. Smallest prize at this particular game a Deck of cards. Play all free game stuff you can. Wife and I spent a full morning just walking down the steps getting funbooks and playing the little games (most free). Ask for decks of cards- never pay for them, you will get them free. Just tell them you enjoyed their casino and will be coming back.

on 11/22/2005 First off, you need a club or promotion players card. This is a must. An easier alternative to standing in line, is to sit wherever you want to play (blackjack or craps being the games of Pro Gamblers), buy in for a hundred, tell the pit boss you lost your card, but you want to put in on there anyway. This little tip saves the player the hassle of other players. Next, ask the pit boss what the payback percentages are on that particular card. In a subtle way you will be introduced to a casino host, without it being obvious that you are looking for something. Another tip is to try to buy in as late as you can, at night! This helps in pushing the 'I'm tired, but I want to play more in the morning' button. Same applies toward food, and cash back. The average cash back rate on a card is $1.00 for every 1000 points earned. Remember that when you play the Reel Slots and Video Machines that (on average) pay 1 point to every $5.00. That's not good odds in your favor. Playing the table enables a much higher player payback rate, even if there are hardly any earned points on the card, for the simple fact that 90% of table games have a $10.00 minimum bet.

Good luck, and enjoy any amenities you have earned yourself!
