How to Find the Cheapest Hotel in Las Vegas

Rate: (13 Ratings)

Vegas can be in your cards even if you're on a tight budget. With thousands of hotel rooms in Sin City, it's a snap to find an inexpensive one, especially if you visit in the off-season or midweek.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Telephones
  • Internet Access
  • Calendars
  • Pads Of Paper
  • Pens

Step1
Determine if your date of arrival coincides with a major convention (see Tips). Plan your vacation for midweek, when it's cheaper, and be flexible about dates.
Step2
Decide how long you want to stay. Some hotels offer two-day, three-day or one-week packages that can save you money.
Step3
Search online. Some of the best room deals are on the Internet.
Step4
Check the downtown casino/hotels. They're usually cheaper than the Strip casino/hotels.
Step5
Investigate hotels that are off Las Vegas Boulevard altogether. These are frequented by locals and can have bargain room rates.
Step6
Check weekly motels. They offer bargain rooms by the week.
Step7
Reserve your room with a credit card after you've found a price that suits your budget.
Step8
Obtain a confirmation number and write it down.

Tips & Warnings

  • Las Vegas hosts myriad convention events, during which time it is prohibitively expensive, if not impossible, to find a room. Check specific dates for these conventions and events: January, Consumer Electronics Show; February, Men's Apparel Guild in California (MAGIC); March, NASCAR; April, National Association of Broadcasters; May, Networld+Interop (high-tech); August, MAGIC; November, Softbank Comdex (software and high-tech); December, National Finals Rodeo.
  • There are approximately 115,000 rooms in Las Vegas, though this number jumps every time a new hotel hits the scene. The conventions listed have an attendance of 50,000 visitors or more.
  • Sixty-three percent of Las Vegas visitors book their visit at least two weeks in advance.
  • Find out about any and all cancellation fees. Some hotels will charge nothing if you cancel well enough in advance. Package deals can have hidden cancellation costs.

on 7/21/2008 You can try RoadTripHelper.com, it will search over 30 major travel sites to find you the lowest price available.
It also shows hotels on a big map.
On the map link below you can see all the hotels on the Vegas strip plotted.

on 6/25/2007 I find the best ways to get the cheapest hotels in Las Vegas or anywhere for that matter is to book on the online travel sites. I use three sites that consistently give me the cheapest hotel prices:

www.Expedia.com
www.TraveLocation.com
www.travelocity.com

on 7/31/2006 Even after you make reservations, keep checking the rates for your room. I checked two weeks after I made reservations and found that they had lowered my Friday night room rate by $30, and when I called they were more than happy to switch me over to the lower price. However, two days later, they raised it again by ten dollars (but my lower rate from two days ago was locked in), so act when the prices are low!
