The Louisiana two-step is a basic step at Cajun and Zydeco dances.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Stand with your feet together facing your partner.
Step2
Place your right hand on your partner's waist.
Step3
Wait until your partner places her left hand on your right shoulder.
Step4
Hold your left hand out to your side with your arm bent.
Step5
Grasp your partner's right hand loosely with your left hand.
Step6
Wait for the music to start.
Step7
Step forward a half-step with your left foot.
Step8
Step forward another half-step with your left foot.
Step9
Step forward a half-step with your right.
Step10
Step forward another half-step with your left foot.
Step11
Step forward a half-step with your right.
Step12
Take another half-step with your right.
Step13
Take a full step with your left foot.
Step14
Take a full step with your right.
Step15
Repeat.

Tips & Warnings

  • These steps are for the leader. The partner will do the opposite steps. For example, if the leader steps forward with the left foot, the partner will step back with the left.
  • The two-step - even what the dance is called - varies from region to region.
  • Your feet should barely leave the ground; slide rather than take full steps.
  • It's the leader's responsibility to watch where you're going.
