Avoid these food additives, which always contain MSG: hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed protein, hydrolyzed plant protein, plant protein extract, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, textured protein, autolyzed yeast and hydrolyzed oat flour.

Look for the following additives, which frequently contain MSG: malt extract, malt flavoring, bouillon, broth stock, flavoring, natural flavoring, natural beef or chicken flavoring, seasoning and spices.

Be wary of these additives, which may contain MSG: carrageenan, enzymes, soy protein concentrate, soy protein isolate and whey protein isolate.

Contact the distributors of foods containing the above additives to see whether they contain MSG.
