How to Make a Big-C Smoothie

Fast, yummy and packed with vitamin C, the big-C smoothie makes a refreshing nondairy breakfast drink or snack. This recipe serves two.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 16 oz. frozen strawberries
  • 12 oz. fresh orange juice
  • Add-ins (optional): t tbsp. blackstrap molasses, 1 tbsp. brewer's yeast, 1 tbsp. flaxseed oil or 1 tbsp. bee pollen
  • Groceries
  • Blenders
  • Drinking Glasses
  1. Step 1

    Chop the banana.

  2. Step 2

    Put the banana and frozen strawberries in the jar of a blender.

  3. Step 3

    Add orange juice.

  4. Step 4

    Blend until smooth.

  5. Step 5

    Add lemonade or a small amount of lemon juice to counteract a too-sweet taste.

  6. Step 6

    Choose an add-in if desired: blackstrap molasses for extra iron, brewer's yeast to boost protein content, flaxseed oil for a dose of omega-3 fatty acid or bee pollen to increase amino acids.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't thaw the strawberries.
  • Freeze the banana for a frostier drink. Bananas can be frozen for up to three months.
  • Avoid sweetened frozen fruit, as this adds calories and may make the drink too syrupy or sweet.
  • Some people are allergic to bee pollen or other add-ins.
  • Follow the directions on the package or consult your doctor if you have questions.

on 11/22/2005 Use 1/2 cup of half and half cream and 1/4 cup of sugar. Make sure you add as much fruit as possible, milk is good, too.
