Decorative autumn vases are easy and fun to make. Use them to show off brilliant berries or fall leaves. Save the vases year after year.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose a glass jar with semi-straight sides and a wide mouth.

  2. Step 2

Collect an assortment of fall leaves; flat leaves work best.

  3. Step 3

Purchase liquid laundry starch, tissue paper and a paint brush.

  4. Step 4

Coat the outside of the glass jar with an ample amount of liquid laundry starch.

  5. Step 5

Press tissue paper to the surface of the jar. Wrinkles in the tissue give the vase character.

  6. Step 6

Add another coat of laundry starch over the tissue paper.

  7. Step 7

Press fall leaves onto the tissue. Use more starch to hold the leaves in place if you need to.

  8. Step 8

Cover the leaf layer with another layer of tissue paper.

  9. Step 9

Finish with a coating of starch to hold everything in place.

  10. Step 10

Let the jar dry in a well-ventilated area.

  11. Step 11

Spray with a light coating of hair spray once the vase is dry.

  12. Step 12

Display fresh or dried flowers in your fall vase.

Tips & Warnings
  • Leaves that work well are ginkgo, maple, pistache and fern.
  • Try to keep the vase dry on the outside if you are using it to display fresh flowers. If it does get wet, allow it to air dry.
  • Use yellow or orange tissue paper to enhance the autumn look.
