Tending to work, family and friends can sap your energy during the day. Some of the following tips may seem like simple common sense, but even simple things can be worth repeating.

    Eat well-balanced meals. Meals that are too heavy will make you sleepy. Try to consume plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains.

    Use caffeine and sugary snacks sparingly to provide energy boosts when needed, but avoid relying on them too much ' they can make your energy seesaw when you least want it to.

    Establish the habit of sleeping and waking up at consistent, regular hours.

    Delegate responsibility if you feel overworked.

  • Try to avoid sleeping pills, which soon lose effectiveness and can be addictive, leading to withdrawal symptoms when discontinued.
  • Check any prescription drugs you're taking for sleep-depriving side effects; some diet, birth control, blood pressure and antidepressant drugs can disrupt sleep.
