Food is an important part of Chinese culture. Therefore, how and where food is prepared is given much consideration, especially in the ancient teachings of feng shui.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stoves
  • Kitchen Tables
  • Knife Blocks
  • Refrigerators
  1. Step 1

Avoid placing the kitchen entrance directly opposite the front door. This will ensure protection from incoming negative energy.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the entrance to the kitchen does not open up to the living room or bedroom. If necessary, keep the door closed while cooking to restrict grease and heat from penetrating the rest of your home.

  3. Step 3

Position the stove so that the kitchen door is not directly behind you. It is important to feel safe and calm while cooking. A door directly at your back exposes your tortoise side and causes tension.

  4. Step 4

Have a hood or fan over the stove, but try to avoid using chrome or gray-colored materials.

  5. Step 5

Protect the backside - the tortoise side - of the stove as well, by placing it against a wall instead of a window.

  6. Step 6

Keep knives, or at least the blades, hidden or stored.

  7. Step 7

Try to decorate with earth tones and wooden furniture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chrome materials and gray colors are cold and represent the energy of metal. A harmonious kitchen has the earth and wood energy qualities.

on 9/24/2009 Because your kitchen and especially the stove represent abundance in Feng Shui, be sure all the burners are clean and working.

on 11/22/2005 If you have no choice but to position your stove in front of the kitchen entrance, hang a mirror against the wall above the stove. This will allow you to see behind you and reflect unwanted negative energy out of the room.
