on 7/15/2006 I use a combination of a 5-in-1 putty knife (which has a curved edge to squeeze paint from a roller) and a roller spinner. The roller spinner uses a twisted handle to quickly spin the roller as you pump the handle up and down.

First, scrape as much paint from the roller with the 5-in-1 and run under warm water. Then spin the water/paint from the roller, and repeat as needed.

The advantage is by removing all water with the spinner, you can store the rollers immediately, or move onto painting another color without losing your pace. Works perfectly.

on 11/22/2005 A saw a TV ad not so long back selling an ingenious product which allows you to clean and dry your paint rollers and brushes in less than a minute. Although the product was great, I decided not to buy it and instead I modified my battery powered hammer drill to accept both paint brushes and rollers.

There is a simple reason for modifying your drill for this. The product the ad was selling used a simple method of high speed spin cleaning. And since I modified the drill I haven't looked back. It not only cleans and dries the rollers and brushes, but it also allows you to re-use them for another color within minutes.

This is how you use this little plan:
1- As soon as you have finished painting, scrape off any excess.
2- Put the brush or roller into the drill (while the paint is still on).
3- Hold the brush or roller in a large tub or container and spin as fast as the drill goes.
4- After 20 seconds, dip the roller or brush into warm soapy water (washing up liquid works best).
5- Hold the brush or roller back into the tub or container and spin until no more water will come out.
6- Remove the brush or roller from the drill and use right away, or put it into a plastic bag and store it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only use battery operated drills for safety reasons.

on 11/22/2005 As long as the paint is water based you can put them in the washing machine.

Just put the roller on a cool wash with nothing else, you dont even need to put a empty wash cycle afterwards. Done this plenty of times, the rollers come out as new

on 11/22/2005 Freezing is bad news. Put the roller in bag, wrap it tightly, then store at room temperature. Remember to stand the roller up on end, if not, you will get a flat spot which goes hard quickly!
