Sure, there are a million sites that will give you driving directions between two points. But what if you really want is a map of an area you choose? Here's how to find one.
Visit a mapping site like mapquest.com or maps.yahoo.com.
Step2
Enter a town, ZIP code, or other area you want mapped, in the fields provided on the site.
Step3
Enter a specific address, if you have it.
Step4
Enter longitude and latitude, if the mapping service provides space for them.
Step5
Click Get Map.
Step6
View and print the finished road map.
Tips & Warnings
Check out several mapping sites. Different sites concentrate on different features - finding shopping, finding streets or finding best routes between places.
Avoid using map pages for maritime, air or overland navigation. Consult sea charts, air charts and topographic maps for more serious navigational needs.

Continued: After a map is completed each user can keep the map private, publish it to the public, password protect it, email it, link to it, or embed it in another website. The embedding feature is really cool because it is also customizable. The color, size, and multiple views of the embedded map can be specified. I have created over 50 maps for personal and business use. I highly recommend this product for anyone searching for a place to create custom online maps.

The world of online mapping is changing fast and if you want to go beyond the typical driving directions and create a truly custom map for other purposes, then you will need to visit sites other than mapquest or maps.yahoo. There are several online services for creating custom online maps. Most of them use Yahoo's or Google's mapping API services for a base map and have programmed tools for cutomizing the maps.
