Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Mix salt and flour together. Add water.
Step2
Knead dough until smooth. The dough should be very stiff. Add more flour if it's too sticky.
Step3
Roll dough out and cut out ornaments with cookie cutters, or cut out your own figures and shapes by hand.
Step4
Push a straw, pen or other thin object through ornament at top to make a hole for hanging.
Step5
Bake ornaments for 1 hour in oven at low setting.
Step7
Decorate. You can paint ornaments with watercolors or other type of paint, or use colored markers. Be creative.
Step8
Coat ornaments when dry with a clear protective coating.
Step9
Put ornament hanger or ribbon through hole and hang.

on 11/25/2007 If you like you could also add spices to the dough like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or nutmeg and your house will smell wonderful. Merry CHRISTmas to all! :)

on 4/21/2007 If you want colored dough, add the color to either the liquid measurement if it's liquid color, or to the flour and salt measurement if it's dry color.

on 1/6/2006 If you add some instant coffee to the hot water used to mix the dough it will have a lovely gingerbread color. How much to add depends on the darkness desired and the brand of coffee.

on 11/22/2005 Use this recipe not only to make ornaments, but also to make name plaques for your kids' doors. They can join in the fun and get creative. You can even award them with these tiny trophies when they accomplish a goal.
