The "vein" of a shrimp is actually its digestive tract. While it won't hurt you to eat the vein, many people prefer deveined shrimp for appearance and (some say) taste. Here's how to devein a shelled shrimp.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • shrimp
  • Skewers
  • Groceries
  • Kitchen Utility Knives
  1. Step 1

Locate the vein: it's the dark ribbon running lengthwise along the shrimp's back.

  2. Step 2

Pick out the vein with a skewer or your fingers; you'll be able to pull it out in several places.
