How to Make Butter Bowl Towelettes

If you're fishing or at the ballpark and are unable to wash your hands, try these handy towelettes. Besides being easy and inexpensive to make, they're a good way to recycle the plastic tubs that once contained butter or margarine.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pine Cleaners
  • White Vinegar
  • White Vinegar
  • Butter Bowls With Lids
  • Serrated Knives
  • Paper Towel Rolls
  • 2 tsp. aloe vera gel
  • 2 1/4 c. distilled waters
  • 2 tsp. baby shampoo
  • 2 tsp. witch hazel
  1. Step 1
     

    Use a serrated knife to cut a roll of strong paper towels into thirds.

  2. Step 2
     

    Cut an "X" in the middle of a clean, 1-lb.-size butter bowl lid.

  3. Step 3
     

    Mix 2 tsp. each of baby shampoo, witch hazel, and either baby oil or aloe vera together with 2 1/4 c. distilled water.

  4. Step 4
     

    Pull cardboard roll from center of paper towels.

  5. Step 5
     

    Place paper towels into empty and clean butter bowl.

  6. Step 6

    Pour mixture slowly over towels until soaked.

  7. Step 7

    Pull a corner of towel from the center of the roll.

  8. Step 8

    Feed the paper towels through the "X" in the lid of the butter bowl.

  9. Step 9
     

    Replace lid on bowl.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also make towelettes for cleaning around the house by mixing 1/2 c. pine cleaner and 2 c. water.
  • Make window towelettes by substituting 1 c. vinegar and 1 1/2 c. water.
  • Avoid leaving butter bowl towelettes in the heat, as they can turn rancid. Keep in ice chest if you're in the sun.

on 11/22/2005 This is the exact recipe many of us new moms use for homemade baby wipes! We don't cut the X in the lid, so they don't dry out as fast. You can also use a 3-quart round plastic storage container from a discount store. They last about 2 weeks.
