How to Make a Tomato-Cage Holiday Tree

Reuse your tomato cages for holiday decorations on your front step or porch.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Straws
  • Dried Flowers
  • Gourds
  • Holly Garlands
  • Minature Pumpkins
  • Ornamental Corn
  • Pine Boughs
  • Pine Cones
  • Tomato Cages
  • Fallen Leaves
  • Craft Wire
  • Wire Cutters

Step1
Turn cage upside-down (round side down).
Step2
Tie the legs of the cage together with wire.
Step3
Weave pine bows, fall leaves, or straw - depending on the season - through the wire.
Step4
Secure with floral wire, if needed.
Step5
Decorate your "tree" with pinecones, holly, flowers, apples, etc. In fall, use preserved leaves, pumpkins, corn and squash.
Step6
Place tree on porch or front step.

Tips & Warnings

  • For Halloween, add witches, ghosts and spiders. Decorate a Thanksgiving tree with straw, turkeys, corn, squash, apples, leaves or gourds.
  • Trim your Christmas tree with pine or cedar, holly, Christmas decorations or angels.
  • Make a tree for the birds by using pine or cedar, popcorn on a string, suet balls, and orange cups filled with birdseed.
  • If you decide to use lights on your tree, keep the greenery fresh and use only lights labeled for outdoor use.
