How to Contact Your Legislator

Things You'll Need:

    Federal Legislators: Representatives and Senators

  1. Step 1

    Visit the U.S. Congress Web site (house.gov).

  2. Step 2

    Click on the "Write Your Representative" link.

  3. Step 3

    Enter the appropriate information into the search fields to find your legislators.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the picture of the legislator you wish to contact. This will take you to a page that lists the legislator's e-mail and postal addresses, as well as telephone and fax numbers.

  5. State and Local Legislators

  6. Step 1

    Visit your state's official Web site. The URL will be in the form www.state.xx.us, where the "xx" stands for your state's two-letter postal abbreviation.

  7. Step 2

    Follow links such as "Government" or "Legislature" on the site that will help you determine who your legislators are and locate contact information. Site formats will vary from state to state.

  8. Step 3

    Contact your town's city hall to find out who your local legislators are and how to contact them.
