Volleyball provides a lot of exciting back and forth action by allowing the receiving team to immediately regain possession of the serve if it wins the rally.
Award the serving team one point if the receiving team allows the ball to touch the ground within its half of the playing court, hits the ball out of bounds, hits the ball more than three times without sending it over the net or otherwise violates the rules of the game.
Step2
Award the serve to the receiving team if the serving team commits any of the faults mentioned above - but don't award a point to either team.
Step3
Win the game by being the first team to reach a score of 15 points while the other team's score is 13 points or lower - or being the team with the highest score when the game clock runs out.
Tips & Warnings
In the Rally Point System, the team that wins the rally scores a point regardless of whether it is the serving or receiving team. A team wins a rally when the other team commits a fault.
The game clock runs out after the ball has been in play for nine minutes. The ball is in play between a serve and the end of a rally. A rally ends when one team commits a fault.
If the game is tied when the game clock runs out, the teams play a "sudden death" match in which the first team to score wins the game.

I've been asked to keep score for our high school volleyball games. It is rally scoring with FHSAA rules. I know how points are scored, but the score sheet is very confusing. Help!

If you get confused as to who gets a point, where the ball should go, etc... feel free to talk to a nearby coach or referee. They'll definitely help you and be sure you have the correct score. Also, frequently check with the ref. to make sure your score matches theirs.

on 11/22/2005 There should be a referee near you at all times. If not, find out why. Feel free to hold up the game.
