How to buy Milk

Purchasing milk is something almost everyone does on a regular basis. Even if they do not drink milk, they need to have some on hand for the many recipes which require it. Although it may seem easy, there is actually a lot of think about when you buy milk.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Find the milk. Milk is usually located in the refrigerator section of the grocery store, which is usually in the back or clear to one side of the store.
Step2
Decide what size to buy. If several people in your family drink milk regularly, the gallon size is the most economical way to buy milk. However, if you cannot make it through a gallon, it's probably cheaper to buy a half gallon or a quart.
Step3
Determine how much fat you want in the milk. Whole milk leaves all of the fat and is a good energy source. Two percent milk contains about half as much fat as whole milk and is therefore less fattening and is lighter to drink. Skim milk contains very little fat, but many people think it does not have much taste.
Step4
Look for a store brand when you buy milk. Many people cannot tell the difference in taste between the store brand milk and the major brand milk. The store brand milk is usually a little cheaper.
Step5
Check the date. Milk usually has a short extirpation date, so if you have trouble making it through milk before it expires, find the latest date possible. Milk is usually loaded from the back, so the milk with the longest expiration date is at the back.
Step6
Consider some other types of milk before you buy. Organic milk is more expensive, but some claim it's better for you and better for the cows it comes from. It's also usually locally raised and tastes fresher. Soy milk is made from soy beans and contains no actual milk at all.
