Chemical hair dyes not only strip the hair of natural oils and damage your locks, they often look very unnatural. If you are looking for a simple and gentle method of enhancing your hair color, take a stroll down the tea section of your local market.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baking soda
  • Container to catch the tea
  • Chamomile tea
  • Rose hips
  • Black tea
  1. Step 1

Prepare your hair for coloring why mixing 1 Tbsp. of baking soda with your regular shampoo and massaging it into your hair. Rinse with warm water and allow your hair to dry naturally. The baking soda gently removes product buildup and oils, allowing the color of the tea to seep better into your hair.

  2. Step 2

Use a tea rinse by pouring the tea over your hair and catching the liquid in a container. Repeat 15 to 20 times and then squeeze any excess liquid from your hair.

  3. Step 3

Pick up highlights and lighten blond hair with chamomile tea. Simmer 1/2 cup of chamomile tea in 1 qt. of water until it reaches a rich, dark color. Allow the tea to cool and then use as a rinse.

  4. Step 4

Bring out the red in your hair by simmering 1/2 cup of rose hips in 1 qt. of water. Again, simmer until the water reaches a strong color and then cool and rinse.

  5. Step 5

Darken hair naturally by brewing black tea. Add 1/2 cup of loose black tea to 1 qt. of simmering water and steep for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and cover, allowing the tea to continue to steep as it cools. Once cool, use as a rinse.

  6. Step 6

Allow your hair to air dry after using your tea rinse and then air dry. You can repeat your tea coloring treatment any time you like to enhance or restore the color.
