How to Cure Scabies. Scabies is an itchy, contagious rash caused by an infection transmitted by a female mite burrowing under the skin and laying eggs. If you get scabies, it's likely you're going to want to cure it as quickly as possible. Rather than just treating the symptoms of scabies, there are some things you can do to cure this irritating infection.

Take an oral dose of ivermectin, an antiparasitic medication that has shown to cure scabies with a single dose. Three to 12 mg is the usual amount prescribed.

Apply Neem oil to the skin at the infected area. The oil in Neem leaves is said to kill mites that cause scabies. Add Neem leaves to bedding for further relief of itching related to scabies.

See a dermatologist and get a prescription topical medication called permethrin. Apply this ointment over your entire body at bedtime and wash off in the morning. Repeat for one week to cure scabies.

Use a cream, soap or lotion containing Manuka extract. This natural product is applied directly to the infected skin to both cure scabies as well as treat symptoms. Manuka is well tolerated and effectively cures scabies within one week.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wash all clothing, bedding, towels and even stuffed animals in hot water and borax to kill any mites in these items to avoid reinfestation once you begin treatment to cure scabies.
  • Consider other prescribed topical medications if permethrin doesn't work or if you're allergic to that product. Sulfur in petroleum or benzyl benzoate lotion are also used to kill mites quickly and cure scabies.
  • Don't give ivermectin to children who weigh less than 33 pounds or women who are breastfeeding children less than three months old.
