1
Choose the optimal location to vent the hose; through drywall, a window or basement wooden sill plate. If you choose not to create a hole, then create a shaft out of wood or drywall to house the hose. Use galvanized sheet metal around the vent if you choose a window setup.

2
Test that there are no obstructions inside the wall prior to drilling the 4 1/8 inch diameter hole for the dryer vent hose. Place a bent wire clothes hanger into a small pilot hole and spin the hanger around to see if it hits anything. If nothing is there then use this pilot hole as the starter hole for the hose.

3
Rent a 4 inch hole saw from a local hardware store to cut the hole for the vent hose on the outside. Using the pilot hole as a guide, cut a hole for the hose starting from the outside. Install the vent hood with wood screws on the outside after putting the pipe attached to the hood into the hole. Caulk around the pipe for a seamless fit.

4
Go inside and attach a pipe to the vent hood pipe and connect it to the dryer. Use sections or elbows of pipe depending upon the vent hose's path to reach the dryer. Connect the hoses to elbows with hose clamps and seal any joints between hose sections with foil tape. Clamp an elbow or corrugated hose to connect the vent pipe to the dryer.

Tips & Warnings
Use a rigid straight vent hose if the hose remains long straight to the outside and use a flexible hose where bends are a requirement.
Do not use a flexible plastic hose to vent the dryer. These are no longer code approved.
