How to Choose What to Wear for Tween Girls

There is this terrible clothing crisis that occurs with most tween girls. They are too old or big for girl's clothes and not ready to wear juniors or misses styles. With a little work and some patience, you can choose great styles for your tween.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set the parameters before you start to shop. Let your daughter know ahead of time what you believe is appropriate for clothing fashions before you hit the mall. If she knows that you are avoiding really short shorts or cut-off tee shirts, you can save an argument at the store.

  2. Step 2

Look for stores that cater to tween clients. Stores like Aeropostale and American Eagle sell clothes specifically for the tween demographic. Find stores that have stylish clothes that fit your daughter in this hard-to-shop-for stage.

  3. Step 3

Buy clothes that fit. This is one of the hardest parts of shopping with a tween and you may have to try on 20 shirts to find two that really fits all the way around. Use this as a great learning experience for her to choose clothes that fit her emerging body type.

  4. Step 4

Layer up to let her stay in style. Many of the latest styles are sometimes too revealing for tween girls. Compromise with her and layer a tank top or tee shirt under the shirt or dress in question. She probably won't fuss too much, many girls are in the same boat and layering too.

  5. Step 5

Use your daughter's school rules as a guide. The student handbook will have specific rules as to what clothes are acceptable. Plus, it is a good idea to know the rules before you spend your hard earned money on clothes and accessories.

on 8/14/2009 i agree with this article unlike most written by controlling moms who shop for their kids. im eleven and shop at stores like pacsun, tilly's, zumiez, maxrave, almost any teen store. and because i dont want to be dresscoded i know the rules so i dont even have to be told them. but its really hot where i live so kinda short shorts are unavoidable in the summer.
