How to Create Cornstarch Playdough
Playdough is a soft, doughy substance that children play with like molding clay. Playdough has been a popular kids toy since the 1950s. Making playdough at home only requires a few household items and about 30 minutes of your time.

Instructions

1
Boil the water in the sauce pan over high heat and add the salt.
-
2
Pour the cornstarch into the bowl. Add the cold water to the bowl slowly, stirring as you pour.
-
-
3
Turn the heat down to low and stir in the cold water and cornstarch. Mix the playdough until it is smooth and about the consistency of cookie dough.
-
4
Add the food coloring and mix it in thoroughly. If the color is too light add more food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
-
5
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Do not try to remove the playdough before it cools.
-
6
Cover a small area of the center or table with wax paper. The covered area needs to be bigger than 1 square foot.
-
7
Place the dough on the wax paper. Knead the dough with your hands until it is completely smooth.
-
8
Allow the playdough to dry. This takes between two and three hours. Place the dough on a cookie sheet in the oven for 1 hour at 200 degrees to speed up the drying process.
