Care for an Eyebrow Piercing

An eyebrow piercing is one of the coolest places for jewelry; however, this fashionable piercing is one of the hardest to care for and requires daily upkeep. Because the skin around the eyes is thin and contains many hair follicles, it is prone to problems. But, with proper care, your eyebrow should heal fully within six to eight weeks.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 cup clean water
  • Small sauce pan
  • Cotton balls
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Cotton swabs

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a saline solution by mixing 1 Tbsp. of sea salt with 1 cup of clean water. Stir until the salt is fully dissolved. Whenever you notice a bit of crusting around the eyebrow piercing, soak a cotton ball in the solution and hold it over the piercing for five or 10 minutes. You can then gently wipe away any material found on the piercing.

Heat the saline solution to a comfortable temperature and then soak a clean cotton ball in the salt water. Place the hot cotton ball over the piercing and hold in place until cool. Discard the cotton and dip a new, fresh ball of cotton and repeat. Apply the hot cotton balls to the piercing once or twice a day.

    • 3

Use the hot cotton ball treatment every few hours if there are signs of infection; however, never squeeze the piercing as you would a pimple. The heat from the cotton ball should be all you need to drain the wound, but if it becomes a problem, return to your piercer as soon as possible.

Apply lavender essential oil to the piercing after each cleaning. Soak a clean cotton swab in the essential oil and rub onto the jewelry. Move the jewelry around gently to get the oil inside of the piercing and then reapply. Take care not to pull the piercing with too much force and never attempt to move the jewelry if there is crusting present.

Keep your hands off of the piercing as much as possible as it heals. Additionally, try to keep your hair away from the piercing, wear a headband during exercise to limit the amount of sweat that comes in contact with the eyebrow piercing and try to sleep on the opposite side.
