Dog ID collars and tags come in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles. Select a dog ID that suits the size of your dog and gives you enough space to include all the important information necessary for your dog to get back to you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose an dog ID tag that fits the size of your dog. The heaviest and largest dog ID isn't the best choice for a miniature puppy.

  2. Step 2

Decide what information to put on the tag. It should have your dog's name on it and your telephone number and area code, regardless of what else you choose to include.

  3. Step 3

Consider including your full address, including city and zip code, especially if you live in a rural area or if you travel with your dog.

  4. Step 4

Select an ID tag with collar loops through both ends if your dog is a breed that chews. Selecting this type of dog ID over a hanging type of tag makes it more difficult for the dog to destroy it.

  5. Step 5

Regularly inspect the dog ID tag and collar to ensure you can easily read it. Make sure it's still the right size, and that your dog hasn't outgrown the collar.
