Step 1
Buy an organic crib for your baby. Look for cribs made from sustainable woods and materials that are finished in non-toxic, natural oils. Buying an organic crib that can transition into a toddler bed also means that you'll get more use out of the bed. Finish the bed off with organic blankets made of wool or cotton.
-
Step 2
Lay your baby down to sleep on an organic mattress. Chemical-free mattresses made of natural materials can help your baby breathe easier without inhaling toxins. Keep in mind that many "organic" mattresses use chemical fire retardants. Instead, look for those that use wool or other natural fire retardants.
-
Step 3
Use organic, washable diapers for your baby. You'll keep disposable diapers out of the landfill and you'll save money overall with washable diapers. Best of all, the chemical-free, all-natural diapers will be much safer for your baby's bottom.
-
Step 4
Look for products that say that they are 100 percent certified organic. The label "organic" can be ambiguous and may not have the same meaning that you think it does. For example, skin care products are not as closely regulated as organic food. Make sure to check labels carefully on all products that say they are organic.
-
Step 5
Choose single ingredient skin care products for young babies. Organic olive oil or shea butter can be good choices. Once your baby is a little older, you can gradually introduce other organic products, checking for allergic reactions.
-
Step 6
Purchase organic, all natural baby items like glass baby bottles instead of plastic and natural rubber pacifiers. You can also find soft toys made out of organic cotton or duckies made of natural rubber.
