Step 1
Determine the weight of the things you'll store on the utility shelves. The weight determines how many concrete wall anchors you'll need to support the shelves and prevent them from pulling free and falling.
-
Step 2
Decide how tall and long you need your utility shelves to be. Multiply the weight of the objects, how long the shelves will be and how tall the shelves will be to get a total weight placed on each anchor.
-
Step 3
Look at the concrete wall anchors you chose to see the maximum weight each anchor can support.
-
Step 4
Divide the number of anchors you want to use by the weight of your shelves and storage items to find out how much weight each anchor will support. Adjust the number of anchors until you're in the acceptable range for the anchor's capacity, as per the manufacturer's instructions.
-
Step 5
Space the wall anchors equally across the length of the utility shelves to make sure the weight is evenly distributed.
-
Step 6
Drill holes for your concrete anchors using a hammer drill. The hammer drill uses a carbide-tipped drill to penetrate the concrete quickly.
-
Step 7
Install your concrete wall anchors and hang your shelves. Tightening the screws will release the anchors into the concrete.
