Things You'll Need:
- Drywall saw
- Razor knife
- Screwdriver
- Plumbing wrenches
- Wire cutters
-
Step 1
Purchase an alcove whirlpool tub designed to fit in the narrower space of a traditional tub. Most whirlpool tubs are wider and won't work in an alcove retrofit.
-
Step 2
Turn off the water to the house and remove the old tub fixtures and drain assembly. Cut away old caulk all the way around, remove the first row of tiles and pull the old tub out of the alcove. Look at the fixtures to ensure they will line up with the holes in the alcove whirlpool tub.
-
Step 3
Power off the electricity at the breaker and run an electrical connection to the area the whirlpool tubs pump will sit. Verify the code requirements of the tub before installation.
-
Step 4
Adjust plumbing lines if required and verify new fixtures thread properly by testing the connection. Push the whirlpool tub to the edge of the alcove and connect the electrical wire to the pump. Turn on the power and verify the pump has power.
-
Step 5
Push the new tub into the alcove until the fixture and drain holes line up. Install the drain and fixtures and turn the water on slowly while looking for leaks.
-
Step 6
Replace the first row of tile and run caulk around the whirlpool tub. Replace any molding and clean out the tub before letting those whirlpool jets work out all the sore muscles.
