Step 1
Go to community mixers, business expos or other business events so that you can introduce yourself to business professionals in your community. Get their business card and ask if you can call them for support in the future.
-
Step 2
Attend seminars or workshops that teach nonprofits how to approach corporate sponsors as well as how to set up a presentation that demonstrates how the transaction can serve both companies.
-
Step 3
Target the right businesses that can gain recognition or financial return from working with your cause. Start with corporations that have a direct correlation with your mission. These organizations are your "no brainers."
-
Step 4
Develop organized statistics representing your organization so that you can answer their questions. Clearly define your organization's mission, highlight your role in the community and have references from other corporations that support your nonprofit.
-
Step 5
Research the corporation before you speak with them. Find out their company's mission, their target market and their involvement with the community. Tailor your presentation to best suit their needs.
-
Step 6
Ask your current supporters for recommendations of other corporations that may express interest in your cause.
