Choose between Database or Cluster certification. Certifications are available in associate and developer DBA levels. Associate level certifications require one exam while developer and DBA require two exams each.

Take a practice test at the MySQL site by clicking on the "Services" link on the homepage. This gives you a good idea of where you currently stand and what you need to focus your studies on.

Register for the exam through Pearson Vue, who is the third party exam administrator. Peason Vue collects the fees and provides study material for each test. Select a time and place for your test based on your schedule and time needed to prepare.

Speak with human resources to determine if your current employer offers financial aid. Make sure you meet the required criteria for fast reimbursement upon completion of the exam.

Create a study group with others taking the same exam. Invite people who understand areas that are less familiar to you.

Test times vary based on difficulty of the exam. Guess when you don't know an answer since incomplete answers are marked wrong. Review your answers if time allows.
