How to Fly a Kite With Kids
Kite flying is an enjoyable way to enjoy time with your kids and to connect with nature. While you may simply want to fly a kite with your kids to spend quality time together, this is also a good chance for you to explain how kites fly and to explore the land around you where you are kite flying. Give your kids a bonding experience and an educational lesson.

1
Share a day of kite flying to celebrate Earth Day, a holiday or a birthday, or just to bond with your kids and with nature. With today's high gas prices, families need to find enjoyable and inexpensive ways to enjoy time together.
-
2
Explore some places where you could go kite flying. Drive, bicycle or walk around your community until you find a location that is wide open and beautiful. Explain to your kids why you need wide open spaces and need to avoid power lines.

3
Talk to the kids about the wind and how wind plays an essential part of kite flying. Let the children feel the wind with their hands and let them think about which direction is best for kite flying.
-
4
Fly the kite high in the air and encourage your child to sing her favorite song while the kite is in the air. This will be a good gauge to see how long her kite can stay high up in the air. Each time your child tries again, see if she can sing her song a bit longer while the kite is flying.
-
5
Hold kite flying contests. If you also have a kite, see if your kite or your child's kite can stay up in the air longer.
