Things You'll Need:
- Email invitations
- Paper scraps
- Cardboard
- Paint and brushes
- String
- Downloaded music
- Rented or biodegradable tableware
- Organic snacks
-
Step 1
Send invitations via email instead of regular mail. Websites offer free templates that make it easy to create, "address" and submit your green cards (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Create your own decorations with recycled materials. Give each guest a handful of confetti that you've torn or snipped from recycled magazines and wrapping paper. Use cardboard from the back of paper pads and recycled string to cut, paint and assemble small graduation hats in school colors.
-
Step 3
Download party music from the Internet instead of using fuel to drive to the store to buy a selection of compact discs (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Rent stemware instead of buying plastic champagne glasses if you'll be making a toast to the graduate. Also rent linens, dishes and silverware if you're hosting a formal event. If it's a casual graduation party, buy biodegradable paper goods and cutlery. Cover tables with paper and leave crayons out so the guests can doodle and leave messages for the graduate.
-
Step 5
Use organic beef if you're barbecuing hamburgers, for example, and serve them with pesticide-free produce and organic chips, dips and desserts that you can find at most grocery stores. You can also order snacks and beverages online if your local market doesn't offer a good selection.
