If you have dry and damaged hair, a hot oil treatment will work wonders. You can pay for an expensive salon hot oil treatment or you can purchase a commercial hot oil treatment. However, an even better option is to save time and money by making your own simple and chemical-free hot oil treatment at home.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2/3 cup sunflower oil or cold pressed olive oil
  • Resealable plastic bag
  • 1 tbs. honey
  • 2 tsp. vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops geranium essential oil
  • 10 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • Bowl of hot water
  • Shower cap
  • Shampoo
  1. Step 1

Place 2/3 cup of sunflower oil or cold pressed olive oil in a resealable plastic bag.

  2. Step 2

Add 1 tbs. of pure honey, 2 tsp. of vitamin E oil and 10 drops each of lavender essential oil, geranium essential oil and sandalwood essential oil, and squeeze the bag to blend the ingredients.

  3. Step 3

Fill a bowl with very hot water and put the plastic bag of hot oil treatment in the hot water. Leave it only until it's warm.

  4. Step 4

Apply the hot oil treatment to your dry hair, working it through from the roots to the ends.

  5. Step 5

Put a plastic shower cap over your hair or wrap it with plastic wrap, and cover the plastic with a warm towel.

  6. Step 6

Leave the hot oil treatment in the hair for 15 to 20 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Shampoo out the hot oil treatment and condition your hair as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have very long or thick hair, you may need to double or triple the recipe.
  • If you don't have all of the essential oils listed in the recipe, the hot oil treatment will still be very effective without them, but won't have the lovely smell.
