How to Change the Footnote Continuation Notice in Word
A footnote continuation notice can be added to the bottom of a footnote in Microsoft Word 2007. This notice lets readers know that the rest of the footnote can't fit on the page and runs on to the next page.

Choose the "References" tab from the top of the Word screen to display the References ribbon. Click the "Show Notes" button in the "Footnotes" section of the References ribbon. The Footnotes window will be displayed at the bottom of your document. If you see a "View Footnotes" dialog box, choose the "View Footnote Area" and click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Click the "Notes" drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes and select "Footnote Continuation Notice" from the list of options. The footnote continuation notice will appear in the Footnotes window. If you don't already have a footnote continuation notice, this area will appear blank.

Use your keyboard to change or add the footnote continuation notice to communicate to your readers that the footnote continues to the next page. When you are happy with your new notice, you can close the Footnotes window.
