How to Make an Easy Low Calorie Dessert

Dessert doesn't have to be high in calories. Use fruit and low-fat ingredients to create easy desserts that taste great, too. Add naturally sweet fruit pieces, high fiber nuts and other nutritious ingredients to finish off your low calorie dessert.

Things You'll Need:

  • Candy bar
  • Apples
  • Lemon juice
  • Non-fat whipped topping

    Whip up a Light Fruit Dessert

  1. Step 1

    Drain a can of crushed pineapple or mandarin oranges.

  2. Step 2

    Mix a carton of low-fat cottage cheese with non-fat chilled whipped topping, and stir in the fruit.

  3. Step 3

    Fold your favorite flavor gelatin mix into the mixture.

  4. Step 4

    Add your choice of pecans, walnuts, almonds or any type of nut, chill and serve.

  5. Serve Peanut Butter Balls

  6. Step 1

    Mix a small amount of low-fat peanut butter with about the same amount of oatmeal.

  7. Step 2

    Take small nickel-size pieces in the palm of your hand, and roll them into little balls.

  8. Step 3

    Put your rolled peanut butter balls on a cookie sheet and chill for a 1/2 hour before serving.

  9. Step 4

    Get creative and add other low-fat ingredients like raisins or dried fruit chunks.

  10. Make a Low Fat Apple Dessert

  11. Step 1

    Slice up a candy bar into small pieces.

  12. Step 2

    Cut two large apples into small chunks. Leave the skin on the apples, or peel before cutting. Coat the apples with a small amount of lemon juice.

  13. Step 3

    Fold the cut up apples and candy bar into a non-fat chilled whipped topping.

  14. Step 4

    Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

  • Using low-fat or non-fat dairy options can save you a ton of calories in any dessert dish. Look for skim-milk based cottage cheese, butter milk and more.
  • Adding high fiber nuts to a dessert can make even an unhealthy looking dish into a much more nutritious option.
  • Use sugar-free products in desserts that also have naturally sweet fruits. You won't even be able to tell you skipped the sugar-loaded alternative.
