How to Make a Perfect Sand Shot

When you're stuck in the sand on a golf course, you may think the match is already lost. But if you think of the sand shot as a slightly advanced chip shot and take the proper approach, you can escape that pit in good shape.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Use your sand wedge. Many players use a pitching wedge to shoot out of the sand because they feel more comfortable. However, a sand wedge is designed to drive through the sand without digging in, and it provides more arc than a pitching wedge, which is desirable for sand shots.
Step2
Hold your sand wedge wide open. Rotate the club clockwise about 45 degrees until the club head points to your right. This allows the flange of the club to bounce when it comes into contact with the sand.
Step3
Compensate for the rotated club. Aim the ball to the left of the hole. With practice you will get a feel for how far to the left you have to aim.
Step4
Choose the perfect divot size. The perfect divot size is about the length of a dollar bill. The divot should also be about half as deep as a golf tee.
