How to Make a Match Rocket

If you're looking for a do-it-yourself version of traditional fireworks, you can create your own rocket. All you need are matches, pins, some foil and a loud voice in which to yell, "Blast off!"

Instructions

    • 1

Place a match on a 1-inch square piece of aluminum foil so that the top of the match extends past the edge of the foil.

    • 2

Place two pins along either side of the match at a straight angle. The pins will have to be laid on the phosphorus and this will make them turn into engines for the match rocket.

    • 3

Roll up the foil around the match and make sure the pins are in perfect form. Make sure you don't squish the tunnels the pins have formed and don't let the pins come out.

    • 4

Take out the pins from the foil now and do it very carefully. They will leave little holes and this will be wear the exhaust will go through for the match rocket.

    • 5

Place your match rocket on the edge of a table or rock with the edge with the foil hanging over. Get a lighter and light up the edge with the phosphorus. Once heated the match rocket should fly off!

Tips & Warnings

  • Children should not play with fire. Make sure you are supervised by a parent if you wish to do this.
