Bookmarks are small items that keep your place in books as you read. You can get bookmarks free as premiums at local bookstores, buy more elegant bookmarks in various fabrics or materials, or create your own from a picture or child's drawing and be back to reading within a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the picture or drawing you want to use for the bookmark.Ideally a bookmark is 2-inches wide and 5- to 6-inches long. If the image is digital, manipulate the dimensions on your computer. If it is a photo or drawing on paper, trim it to size with scissors.

    • 2

Draw two bookmark shapes on two sheets of laminating paper. The shapes should be 1/2 inch wider and longer than the dimensions from Step 1. Laminating paper is available at most office supply stores, such as Staples and Office Max.

    • 3

Cut out the laminating paper along the drawn lines. Remove the protective paper covering the sticky side of one the shapes. Place the picture or drawing in the center of that shape. Smooth it out.

    • 4

Remove the protective covering from the second bookmark shape. Line it up with the first shape and place it on top of the picture or drawing. Push down on the laminating paper and smooth out any bubbles. Wrap the corners around the side of bookmark. Trim any excess laminating paper.

    • 5

Cut a hole in the center of the top of the bookmark.

    • 6

Thread yarn or string through the hole and tie a knot in the string.
