Things You'll Need:
- Telemark bindings
- Telemark skis
- Telemark boots
- Ski goggles
- Knee pads
- Gloves
- Helmet
- Alpine ski clothing
-
Step 1
Wear protective clothing, including a ski helmet and knee pads, in case you fall.
-
Step 2
Find a ski jump on the mountain you want to try. Make sure the coast is clear so you don't run into anyone.
-
Step 3
Ski toward the jump while gaining speed. Face your upper body down toward the fall line.
-
Step 4
Plant your downhill pole firmly into the ground. Push hard into the ground and start the jump. After you begin the jump, slide the lead ski behind the other ski. Don't move the second ski forward. It will fall into place where it needs to be.
-
Step 5
Make sure that your skis are parallel while you're in the air and during the landing.
-
Step 6
Keep your hands out in front and in the lead. If your hands are in the correct position, your legs will follow during the telemark jump landing. Bend your knees so they can absorb the shock of the landing, and lean forward from your hips.
-
Step 7
Practice landing a telemark jump in different snow conditions. Practice on steeper terrain and in deep snow. This makes you a better telemark skier and prepares you for different conditions.
