Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose fabric for your clothespin bag. Pick something sturdy, especially if you plan to leave the bag outside on the clothesline. Denim or canvas works well for this project.

  2. Step 2

Cut two pieces of fabric 14 inches wide by 14 inches deep. Lay the two pieces of fabric together on a flat surface.

  3. Step 3

Lay the plastic coat hanger on top of the fabric, with the hook extending beyond the fabric. Trace the slope of the hanger on the fabric with the pencil. Make both sides as even as possible. Cut the excess fabric away.

  4. Step 4

Draw an oval shape on a piece of newspaper or scrap paper. It should be about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long. Adjust the size if you want a larger opening. Cut this pattern out and trace it on one of the pieces of fabric, starting at the top point where the hook extended. Cut the fabric.

  5. Step 5

Put the two pieces of fabric together, with the right sides facing. Sew them together with a 1/2-inch seam. Turn the clothespin bag right side out.

  6. Step 6

Open one side of the bias tape. Pin the bias tape in place. Sew with the sewing machine. Fold the bias tape over the raw edge of the opening, and pin it in place. Stitch it again.

  7. Step 7

Slip the clothes hanger into the hand opening of the clothespin bag. You can leave the hanger free, or you can sew it in place with hand basting.
