1
Identify a specific goal so you know exactly what you are aiming to achieve. You will have an easier time achieving something that you define in detail. Break your large goals into smaller pieces that you can realistically attain with ease.
-
2
Create a way to measure your goals. You need measurable steps so you can tell if you are making progress. Add time limits, time frames and tools that measure what you are trying to attain. Aim to complete a goal at a certain time, but also be flexible enough to change the time if needed.
-
3
Make your goals attainable. Research to make sure you can get what you are trying to achieve. You will work hard for nothing if your goals are impossible to achieve. Set yourself up for something that is within your reach, and make sure you know the way to reach that goal. Divide large goals into smaller goals that you can meet in a reasonable about of time.
-
4
Pick a realistic goal. Your SMART goals should be realistic so you can be confident that you will meet the goal. You will give up easily if the goal is too big or too broad for you to achieve. Make sure you have the means to achieve the goal and that you can overcome any financial or educational obstacles.

5
Attach a time to your goal. You want timely steps so you know what you can expect to achieve at a given date. Use times like 1 week, 1 month or 1 year. Set long-term goals that sit in the future, but also include short-term goals with closer time frames that you can meet as you move toward your longer goal.
