Gmail Basic HTML is an alternative to the full-featured version. Gmail Basic HTML's simple interface makes receiving and sending messages hassle-free--especially on a mobile device or unsupported browser. Learn how to use Gmail Basic HTML by reading the following tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Switch to Gmail Basic HTML when you use unsupported browsers. View Gmail on a mobile device by choosing Gmail Basic HTML after signing onto the website.

  2. Step 2

Navigate through Gmail by clicking on "Account Options," "Labels," "Inbox," "Contacts," "Labels" and any other link presented.

  3. Step 3

Press "I" to go to your inbox, "C" to compose a message, "R" to reply to a message, "A" to reply to all and "F" to forward a message.

  4. Step 4

Open and read messages like you would in the normal Gmail view. If you're using a mobile device, make sure you highlight each function or link before pressing "Enter" or its equivalent.

  5. Step 5

Delete messages by checking the box next to the email messages and clicking "Delete."

Tips & Warnings
  • Gmail Basic HTML may be confusing to first-time users. Know that you're on the main page inbox by identifying the "Archive," "Report Spam" and "Go" buttons. Another indication is simply seeing the names and subject titles of email messages.
  • Under "Account Settings," you can make general changes to your accounts, labels forwarding and POP/IMAP options. All changes must be saved for them to take immediate effect and remain permanent.
  • While Gmail Basic HTML is a simpler form of its usual version, you can still send attachments with it. Simply enter the local path of the attachment in the "File Upload Edit" box, or browse for it on your computer or device.
