Step 1
Cook a meal together. Even if you're both novices in the kitchen, download a simple recipe, shop for the ingredients together and watch a favorite DVD while you enjoy your meal. (See Resources below for a good recipe site.)
-
Step 2
Have a picnic on the beach instead of dinner at an expensive restaurant on the water. Pack your favorite foods, a simple dessert and a portable compact disc player and music to set a romantic mood.
-
Step 3
Take an inexpensive class together through a community recreation center. You'll have a standing date to spend quality time together, save money and learn a new skill such as cooking, photography or Tai Chi, for example.
-
Step 4
Tour some of the local landmarks, historical sights, museums and art galleries in your area. You may be able to visit most of them free of charge, and many galleries will hold free parties with wine and cheese when a new artist opens an exhibition.
-
Step 5
See community, college or high school productions of popular plays and musicals to save money on ticket prices. Take along a picnic to enjoy outside before the show as another frugal touch.
-
Step 6
Experience the great outdoors by taking a hike, going on a nature walk through a park or arboretum or taking up bird watching. Soak up the sun and get to know each other better in the picturesque setting.
-
Step 7
Volunteer together. Spend time with one another while working for a local charity, hospital, shelter or school. You'll be dating, bonding and helping a worthy cause at the same time.
