1
Save empty Styrofoam or cardboard egg cartons. If you'd like to sterilize them, soak the containers briefly in a mild bleach solution (created with one part bleach and nine parts water) and allow them to dry completely.
-
2
Cut the "cup" portions from the cartons with sharp scissors or a craft knife. Create a zigzag edge around the tops with jumbo decorative-edged scissors or with simple snips made with straight scissors. (See Resources below.)
-
-
3
Poke a small hole through the bottom of each cup-turned-tulip with a nail or pencil.
-
4
Leave the tulip shapes as is if you started with pastel-colored Styrofoam egg cartons. If they're plain cardboard, however, consider painting them with vibrant acrylic paints or coloring them with markers.
-
5
Nest two flower shapes on top of each other and insert a pipe cleaner through the holes. Wind the end coming up through the flowers into a small coil so you can't pull it back through. It will also serve as a decorative flower center. Trim and bend another pipe cleaner around the stem to resemble small leaves.
-
6
Embellish the flowers with items like stickers, buttons or sequins, if desired. You can even spritz them with perfume for a pretty aroma.
-
7
Gather the flowers once you've created several. Place them in a vase or wrap them in tissue tied with pretty ribbon like a real bouquet.
