How to Get a Refund on Amazon

Getting a refund on Amazon may seem like it's impossible--especially if you purchased from an individual seller and not Amazon. However, receiving a refund from Amazon is easy if you know where to look on the site and follow proper procedures.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to your Amazon account using your registered email and account password.

    • 2

Select "Your Account" from the menu on top of Amazon's home page.

    • 3

Find the section titled "Where's My Stuff?" on your main account page. Choose "Orders Placed in the Last Six Months" next to "View My Order" and press "Go."

    • 4

Identify the order with which you've had a problem and click "View Order" next to its listing. Click "Problem With This Order?" next to the shipping information.

    • 5

Review the order's details. Compare dates, delivery estimates and status. If you haven't received your order by the delivery estimate, click "Contact Seller," use the form to describe your problem and send the email. Wait for a response. Contacting the seller before you file a claim gives the seller an opportunity to respond to and resolve a dispute before official action is taken on Amazon.

    • 6

Note that you haven't received a response after waiting a reasonable amount of time. Return to the site using the steps outlined above. Instead of clicking "Contact Seller," choose "File Claim." Give the reason for your claim, indicate that you want a refund and provide details of your claim in the provided box. Check off all of the agreements and confirm that you attempted to contact the seller before filing a claim.

    • 7

Submit your claim. Receive an official response from Amazon and a refund after Amazon investigates the claim and verifies its validity.
