Sewing hair onto a weft is attaching it to a strip that can then be glued or sewn onto a doll's head. You can use a variety of materials for the hair, ranging from acrylic fleece to human hair. Although the process may seem daunting it is fairly easy and requires only a few materials.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Setting Up

Step1
Organize the material that you are going to use for hair. Use a thin layer of hair for the weft. If you are using animal hairs make sure that the cut ends line up.
Step2
Cut the tissue paper in strips three inches wide. Try to make strips that are as long as possible.
Step3
Set your sewing machine on the smallest size stitch possible. This will ensure that the hair is held firmly by the stitches.
Step4
Take one strip of tissue paper and lay a thin layer of the hair on the tissue paper. Cover the paper with two inches of hair. Lay another piece of tissue paper on top of the first and the hair.
Step5
Sew over the two layers of tissue paper and the hair. Stop shortly before you get to the end of the area where the hair is laid out.
Step6
Lift the top section of tissue paper and add a few more inches of hair. Make sure to overlap where the last section ends and the next begins.
Step7
Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until you have used the entire length of the tissue paper.

Sewing Weft

Step1
Go back to the beginning of the tissue paper length and sew another row of stitches one inch from the first row. Don't just turn the paper strip around. You want the stitches to be going in the same direction.
Step2
Sew a third row of stitches between the first two. Make sure again to go in the same direction as the first two rows.
Step3
Carefully remove the top layer of tissue paper from the stitches. Don't remove the bottom portion of the paper. Fold the tissue paper and hair over at the line created by the center row of stitches.
Step4
Sew between the two rows of stitches again. You'll have tissue paper on each side of the hair again.
Step5
Pull the tissues paper on the top portion of the weft away from the stitches.
Step6
Fold the tissue paper and hair again following the latest line of stitches. Sew another row of stitches between the two lines that are visible.
Step7
Remove all the tissue paper that is left on the weft. There will be some tissue paper between the rows but it will be small and won't be necessary to remove.
