Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Concrete and tools
- Chalk line
- Saw with diamond blade
- Concrete stain
- Concrete sealer
Step1
Create a firm base. Even if you are screening a portion of an existing deck, you will probably want to the cover the wooden floor with a solid material to keep bugs from coming through the cracks. Concrete is a good choice for a screened porch.
Step2
Pour a concrete slab. If you are an experienced do-it-yourself type of person, you can rent concrete tools and pour the slab. If you're not experienced with this kind of work, hire a contractor.
Step3
Finish the concrete floor by giving it a designer look. Score the concrete into a pattern. Squares are the easiest, but you can choose any pattern. Measure carefully before scoring, mark your lines with chalk and score the concrete using a saw with a diamond blade.
Step4
Add special patterns to parts of the floor if you are artistic. Some homeowners etch a decorative medallion in the middle of the floor.
Step5
Apply a concrete stain. Use two colors for a decorative look. You can dilute the stain with water and apply with a roller or cloth, depending on the look you want to achieve.
Step6
Seal your new screened porch floor with a concrete sealer to protect the finish.
