Step 1
Look for a fan club devoted to the celebrity you're interested in. Many of these clubs offer ways for members to contact the artist.
-
Step 2
Write to the celebrity via his or her record label, studio or publisher if you don't have any luck with fan clubs.
-
Step 3
Begin your letter by identifying yourself. Your name and age are good starters.
-
Step 4
Tell the person how much you like his or her work. Be specific.
-
Step 5
Tell the person any special situations or stories from your life that relate directly to his or her work. For example, you could tell your favorite singer how his or her music helped you through a rough time in your life.
-
Step 6
Ask any questions you may have, but keep in mind that you may not get a reply if your celebrity is very popular.
-
Step 7
Conclude by wishing the celebrity luck or telling him or her how much you look forward to future work.
-
Step 8
Sign your name. Include your address if you'd like a reply.

on 4/15/2007 The ideas and suggestions provided on this page have all been very good. One thing I would add is something that has been mentioned briefly by other users, but I think it's very important: keep it short and sweet. Feel free to tell a little bit about yourself, but don't go overboard--remember, most celebrities have a lot of fan mail to read, and keeping it both simple and sincere will increase the chances of your letter being noticed. Give your letter diligent thought and time, and try to make it sound as professional as possible. Think of how many letters celebrities must get that say things like "Oh my gosh, you are sooooooooo hot, I love you so much, I want to marry you!" When you write in a humble and respectful tone, the person you are writing to will appreciate it. Perhaps most importantly......if you have included a self-addressed stamp envelope for a reply, be patient, and don't get discouraged if it's taking a long time. For one fan letter that I wrote, it took a year and a half to get a response, but it was worth the wait. Be forgiving to the person you're writing to, especially if they are very popular, and remember that a reply may come when you least expect it. Good luck! :)

on 1/31/2006 Sometimes cute and colorful stand out. Talking from my own experience, I sent someone a letter written on a solid color paper and sent it in the same color envelope. When I happened to meet that person, she remembered me not by my name, but by the colorful letter I had sent.

on 12/20/2005 Choose your writing materials carefully. If you are composing your letter on a computer, choose a classic font like Times, Helvetica, or Garamond. White or cream-colored paper and envelopes are best. Avoid cutesy or garish stationery and odd-colored ink. If you are enclosing a SASE, use a #9 envelope, which fits neatly and flatly into a #10 envelope, but will also hold a regular 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. Both of these envelope sizes are available at any good office supply store. The neater and more professionally your fan letter is presented, the higher the probability of a prompt response.
